Identifying Missing Work in the Gradebook
- To identify missing assignments in the grade book, teachers will utilize the following marks:
- “0” is for assignments that cannot be made up
- “Z” is for assignments that are currently a zero but can be made up (“Z” calculates as a zero)
- “X” is for an assignment that is excused (“X” does not calculate into the grade)
- “59” a line through a numerical grade means the grade was dropped and is not included in the calculated average.
- “I” is reserved for report cards only and will be used for absences with eligibility consequences. An “I” must be cleared up within one week of report cards.
- No other symbols or abbreviations will be used
Make Up/Redo Guidelines:
- Students should have opportunities each grading period in each course to retake one Summative Assessment for which they earned a failing grade and to redo at least one Relevant Application and Checking for Understanding assignment for which they earned a failing grade.
- Teacher/teams will determine the methods and timelines for retest/redo opportunities and communicate them to students and parents.
- Teachers will require an intervening action (tutorial attendance, study group, test corrections, etc.) before allowing a retest.
- The highest grade a student should earn on a retest/redo is a 70, and no student may earn a grade lower than the original grade.
- DPMs/benchmarks are not included in the retest opportunity.
Late Work
- Teachers will take 10 points off per day up to 30 points off for any assignment that was not turned in by the due date
- Assignments will not be taken after the summative assessment that correlates to the missed assignment and a “0” will be placed in the grade book
Reporting Progress:
- Teachers will update their grade book at least once per week.
- Students should be checking their grades in Home Access Center daily.
